General rules for koi ponds

Some koi pond rules you should know before you begin to build your koi pond.

  1. The koi pond needs to be at a minimum three feet; though many experts recommend four feet. For those wishing to grow jumbo koi, a six foot minimum pond is suggested.
  2. If you reside in cold climates a four foot deep koi pond is a must. However six feet is best for sections of the pond.
  3. Warmer climates get away with shallower depths, but shallow ponds cannot regulate the water temperature well; hence, it will stress your koi.
